What to do in La Jolla

With summer in full swing, we love to get out of the office and explore around this beautiful city of San Diego. Today we want to share all of our favorite things to do in La Jolla and encourage you to get out this week and explore around for yourself!

La Jolla Cove

La Jolla Cove is one of our favorite places to go, especially early in the morning. Head down to the cove after grabbing a coffee and pastry from Sugar and Scribe Bakery, and enjoy the nature and beauty La Jolla has to offer. You can sit on a bench, listen to the waves, and watch the seals and sea lions in their natural habitat playing in the water and basking in the sun. Venture south of the cove to sit on the grass above the ocean and watch the surfers in their element. When you’re done admiring the ocean and the wildlife, make your way up to Girard Street for some shopping at multiple different stores lined along the street.

Birch Aquarium

Located near UC San Diego, the Birch Aquarium makes for a great outing with the family, somewhere to take the kids, or an awesome day date spot. Spend an hour or two here and experience different ocean exhibits, including the Tide Pool Plaza, where you’ll be able to get extremely close to sea stars, sea anemones, hermit crabs, and even touch stingrays and bat rays! The Tide Pool Plaza looks over Scripps Beach in La Jolla, so you’ll have an amazing view of the Pacific Ocean anywhere you look. Other exhibits showcase creatures of the deep and sea turtles! The Birch Aquarium also offers feedings and shows throughout the day, so make sure to look over the schedule for the day so you don’t miss out on all the fun. Tickets are $18.50 for adults, $14 for children 17 and under, and $15.50 for seniors. Parking is always free for up to three hours. Don’t forget to ask about military and student discounts at the ticket window!

University Town Centre (UTC)

Outdoor malls are a must for shopping in the warm summer air. UTC is a newly renovated Westfield mall located in La Jolla with approximately 150 stores taking up over one million square feet. This incredible outdoor mall holds a movie theater, an ice skating rink, Soul Cycle, and a plethora of dining and retail stores. Spend a couple hours here enjoying lunch at new restaurants, such as Napizza or Sweetfin Poké, and enjoy shopping from different retailers, including Sun Diego Boardshops or Nordstrom. The options for shopping and dining are endless at UTC, and there is something guaranteed to please everyone’s individual style and taste.
